Brummagem Farm 2015
Exhibition in context of my three month Artist in Residence Program at Gachang Art Studio in Daegu (South Korea)
What we usually take as natural, is beyond human control, manipulation or construction. In the farmlands of Gachang, surrounded by untouched wooded mountains and the expanding city of Daegu, the separation of the artificial and the natural becomes distinctly and visible in the act of farming. Forced, by the expanding urbanisation and in the fight against natural forces, every spot is used to create artificial environments, in order to cultivate so called “natural products”.
Brummagem Farm is a micro environment, for which I collected, objects, materials and structures of this ambivalent landscape. In their new habitat, they are given various options of possible behaviour and are introduced to situations that challenge their status quo.
